Community Breakfast
The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster hosted our Second Annual Community Breakfast on December 4th, 2008 at 7:30 am at our Jack Walker Clubhouse (231 W. Lemon Street, Lancaster).
The "Breakfast of Champions: A Celebration of our Community Heroes" was a wonderful opportunity to show our support for Kegel's Produce and the Lancaster Barnstormers and their tremendous commitment to serving Lancaster residents and local organizations.
The Barnstormer’s reach throughout Lancaster City and County has been tremendous. On behalf of the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster, they have facilitated partnerships that have provided priceless opportunities for our members to attend games, clinics and special meet and greets with team players, as well as partnerships that have provided funding for important programs like our Power Hour homework help program. In addition to their generous efforts for the youth in our Clubhouses, their reach extends beyond, including:
- JSID community program offering game tickets to reward acts of kindness witnessed by the JSID bike patrol.
- Hosting seven “Youth Reporters” with the opportunity to meet sports reporters and sit in the Press Box to gain first hand experience in sports journalism.
- Jersey Auctions with proceeds benefiting S.A.L.S.A. (Spanish American Lancaster Youth Association).
- As well as initiatives to benefit the Water Street Rescue Mission, Schreiber Pediatric, Janus School, Lancaster General and Ephrata Community Hospitals’ Cancer Care, the Red Cross, Lancaster-Lebanon Reading Council and many, many others.
Kegel’s produce is being recognized for their countless monetary and product donations to causes right here in Lancaster County. They have contributed food donations to important organizations like the Lancaster County Project for the Needy food boxes, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and others. They have sponsored events like the Mix at Arbor Place and a concert at the Jewish Community Center. They actively support Aaron’s Acres Volley for Kids, the Milagro House, S. June Smith Center, Schreiber Pediatric, the Janus School, Sertoma and the AIDS Community Alliance just to name a few. Their President, Sue Myers and Chief Operating Officer, Kenny Myers, are a familiar faces to many. As a McCaskey alumni, Kenny is a tremendous McCaskey football supporter and actively serves on the board of the Kris Wilson Foundation. Kenny has served on the Advisory Board for the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster. He has been instrumental in developing our Hostetler Award scholarship dinner and has not only supported the event with great enthusiasm, but shared his passion and motivated others to support the Club’s efforts as well.
