The Hostetler Awards
The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster held its fourth Annual “Hostetler Awards: Honoring Athletes past and present” on Thursday February 26th, 2009. The event was held at Millersville University’s Gordinier Hall & Bolger Conference Center at 6:00pm. This event honored Lancaster County High School Senior athletes for their personal achievements. Six applicants were chosen for $500.00 scholarships, provided by High Industries, by their response to the questions: How has participating in organized athletics helped you overcome an adversity in your life?
We celebrated their amazing stories with a “tailgate” style party and a Philadelphia Eagle theme to honor our special guest speaker Vince Papale, former Philadelphia Eagle and the inspiration behind the Disney movie Invincible.
This event was developed to raise money for the ongoing athletic programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster. We aim to give each child the opportunity to participate in activities and teams regardless of athletic ability or financial status. Every youth that picks up a ball instead of drugs or finds support from teammates instead of gang members is a small miracle.
Everyone was inspired by not only motivation and determination in Vince Papale’s story, but also by the stories of other young athletes from across the county.
