BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF LANCASTER RECEIVES $25,000
FOR POWER HOUR
THROUGH A CHARITY PROJECTS ENTERTAINMENT FUND/IDOL GIVES BACK INITIATIVE
Lancaster, PA September 1, 2008– The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster has been awarded a tremendous opportunity designed to impact Lancaster City youth in the area of educational enrichment. This grant in the amount of $25,000 was graciously given by Charity Projects Entertainment Fund/Idol Gives Back to go to directly the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster’s Power Hour program, a program that works with Club members each and every day after school, helping them not only complete assignments, but increase their comprehension of assignments and tasks so they can perform better on test and quizzes and continue to retain and gain knowledge in the classroom. In addition to homework help, students have access to one-on-one tutoring, computers and a safe and positive place to learn and grow.
The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster’s Steinman Clubhouse was identified as a recipient due to the great need of its neighborhood residents. The challenges that these neighborhoods are facing include high drop out rates and repeatedly under-performing on standardized test. The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster is hopeful that this unique and one-of-a-kind opportunity will afford the privilege of increasing staff training and staff hours dedicated to this valuable program.
