Who are the Dutch Uncles and Great Aunts?

Dutch Uncles Great AuntsThe Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster Dutch Uncles & Great Aunts is a giving club that has supported the future of the Boys & Girls Club since 1982 by making yearly contributions to the endowment.  Over the years, the Dutch Uncles & Great Aunts has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to this purpose.  Contact Erin Mayfield at 717-295-3474 for more information.

What is a “DUGA?”

“DUGA” is an acronym for a “Dutch Uncle Great Aunt.”

How does one become a Dutch Uncle or Great Aunt?

One becomes a DUGA by making a planned gift or purchasing a Charitable Gift Annuity that benefits the Boys & Girls Club.  There is no minimum dollar amount.

Any one who cares about the future of children in our community is encouraged to consider making a planned gift and becoming a Dutch Uncle or Great Aunt.

What is the Dutch Uncles Great Aunts Heritage Club?

This is a recognition program that expresses our gratitude and appreciation to anyone who has given a planned gift.  Recognition and gratitude is extended on behalf of both the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster Dutch Uncles and Great Aunts and the National Boys and Girls Club of America.

Heritage Club members are publically acknowledged at a Club or DUGA event and receive a special award memento embossed with the Dutch Uncles and Great Aunts logo.  They also receive an acknowledgement letter and recognition pin from the President of the Boys & Girls Club of America.

Of course, donors can always choose to remain anonymous.

What kind of planned gift qualifies for Dutch Uncles and Great Aunts?

Any planned gift of any amount qualifies.  There are many ways to make a planned gift varying from a simple bequest or insurance assignment to a complicated legal trust.  The purchase of a Charitable Gift Annuity, which combines a gift with life income, also qualifies for DUGA membership.

A Charitable Gift annuity pays an annual rate of return depending on the annuitant’s age.  These rates are set by the National Council on Gift Annuities and currently range from 5.25% to 9.5%.  The minimum gift annuity that can be purchased in this program is $10,000.

Local and/or national Boys & Girls Club staff will be happy to meet with you and discuss general planned giving concepts or present our Charitable Gift Annuity program.  Such discussions do not delve into your personal finances and are not meant to offer legal advice or professional financial investment planning.

What is the DUGA Mystery Dinner?

The Mystery Dinner is an annual celebration that has been going on for twenty years.  Every October, the DUGAs gather at the Manor Shopping Center and climb onto a big black tour bus.  They are then bussed to some fun, creative, or unusual spot.

It is a “mystery” because the dinner location is kept top secret and the group doesn’t know where they are going until they get there.

After some socializing and a sumptuous dinner produced by the Hamilton Club, the bus is reloaded, returned to Manor Shopping Center and everyone has experienced a wonderful evening together.
