Employment Programs
Money Matters: This program is offered to our teens once they have entered high school. The sessions are designed to be hands on and geared to our teens ages 13-18. Money Matters can be implemented as a stand alone program or a small group. Through fun, interactive activities on topics like using a checking account, savings for college and investment basics, teens prepare to make smart financial decisions. The financial skills Clubhouse teens build when they take part in Money Matter will stay with them as they move from adolescence through their college years and into adulthood. We have had 25 teens enrolled in this program since its implementation, sixty percent girls and thirty five percent boys. We are now in the process of partnering with local banks to commit to opening a savings or checking account with a twenty five dollars donation for the members that successfully complete this course. This will give the members a start for practicing the skills learned in the program.
Junior Staff Program: Every month, five club teens, ages 13-18, have the opportunity to earn a weekly stipend by performing assigned work tasks throughout the clubhouse. These tasks can include cleaning, serving dinner to club members, operating front desk, and conducting daily tournaments. To become a Junior Worker, members must be in good academic standing in school, be willing to work a minimum of three days per week, participate in weekly meetings, and be a positive role model inside and outside the clubhouse. This program helps our teens develop a good positive work ethic and a sense of belonging. Our goal is to develop a qualified, competent and committed workforce needed to fulfill the mission of the Boys & Girls Club Movement and encourage youth to consider careers as Club professionals.
Job Ready: prepares club members ages 16-18 with specific skills to secure employment and be successful in the world of work. Using the comprehensive program materials and assessment tools that JOB READY provides, club staff can tailor the program to meet their members’ particular needs. Teens learn how to identify job opportunities, write effective resumes, perform well in interviews, dress appropriately, develop good work habits, and get along well with others in the workplace. The Taco Bell Foundation provided funding for the development of the program. We have successfully placed 12 members, 75 percent boys and 25 percent girls, in this program and have assisted them through every step of the way for them to graduate and begin a good, secured employment. We have partnered with several major companies who have committed to guaranteeing the Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster at least an interview to all members that complete this program.
