Keyanna Dixon
My name is Keyanna Dixon, and I'm 19 years old. I was a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster for 11 Years.
When I think of the Club, I remember the South West Clubhouse Basement, Bowling Alley and the Club Store.
I remember the staff as mentors the most, they were always there when I needed someone to talk to because I really couldn’t talk to my mom or dad; my parents were never available to talk and were never home and the staff were always available. My favorite memories of activities or events at the Club included the Scotland Exchange and Dodgeball
I would not be where I am today without the club. They were always there to help with homework and always had all the necessary tools needed to complete any assignments. The club always pushed me to do my best; and taught me that education is key. I always knew that I had people routing for me and I didn’t want to let them down! When looking for colleges, club staff helped me fill out applications and take me on tours of the colleges; and then ultimately moved me into college on move-in day.
I now have a daughter who is almost a year and was fully supported by the club and all staff were very non judgmental.
The Boys & Girls Club is a place for kids to go after school as a safe haven. Gives kids the opportunities to advance and learn more with their education and sports leagues as well as teaches them healthy eating and hygiene and what it is like to enter into adulthood, and the changes that they might encounter.
