Programs & Services

Education & Career

Our Project Learn initiative is a philosophy that ensures every activity at our Clubs is a fun and exciting learning experience for youth. This strategy focuses on five core components:

  1. Homework Help & Tutoring enables members to develop the daily habit of completing homework in a safe, quiet, allocated space with staff and volunteer encouragement.
  2. High-Yield Learning Activities (HYLAs) help members apply what they learn in the classroom and encourage them to make productive choices about how leisure time is spent. The entire Club is a learning center and every out-of-school moment is a learning experience.
  3. Parental Involvement empowers the care giving adults in our members’ lives to support members’ academic development by informing them of the child’s progress, providing programs and information, as well as connecting them with outside resources so they can assist their child and provide a safe and positive home environment for their families.
  4. School Collaboration ensures that Club staff are connected to the child’s main academic learning experience: school. The ability to communicate with teachers, share student information, and understand classroom philosophy helps Club staff develop enrichment plans that meet the needs of members.
  5. Incentives reward Club members for positive academic participation and for being examples of strong character and leaders.

Power Hour: This program helps Club members, ages 6-12, be more successful in school by providing homework help and tutoring and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.

Character & Leadership

Keystone Club:
Chartered small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 14-18. ‘Keystoners’ elect officers and plan and implement their own activities in six areas: service to the Club and community, leadership development, education and career exploration, unity, free enterprise and social recreation.

Torch Club: Chartered small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11-13. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and plan and implement their own activities in four areas: service to Club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation.

Sports & Fitness

Triple Play: Triple Play, Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster’s first comprehensive health and wellness program, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, strives to improve the overall health of Club members, ages 6-18, by increasing their daily physical activity, teaching them good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

basketball

The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster offers a variety of sports & fitness-related activities at our Clubhouses. Club members engage in 30-60 minutes of daily play in our Club gymnasiums and participate in league and skill-building programs for basketball, soccer and flag football.

Arts

The Club provides daily opportunities for arts and creative activities including drawing, painting, crafts and special projects in Club art studios. We also offer dance instruction programs and feature music recording studios at our three Clubhouse locations!

Health & Life Skills

Supper Club: The Boys & Girls Club of Lancaster serves a hot, nutritious meal each weeknight for our Club members. Over eighty-six percent of our members qualify for free or reduced lunch at school; Supper Club ensures that they are consistently provided with dinner. We serve an average of 30,000 meals per year, and also provide breakfast and lunch at our summer camp site, Camp Hogan.

SMART Girls: It is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 10-15. The program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable early adolescent girls to develop to their full potential.

Passport to Manhood: Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility in Club boys ages 11-14. Passport to Manhood consists of 14 sessions, each of which concentrates on a specific aspect of manhood through highly interactive activities. Each Club participant receives his own “passport” to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey of maturation and growth. Passport to Manhood represents a targeted effort to engage young boys in discussion activities that reinforce positive behavior. Passport to Manhood is an excellent complement to SMART Girls.
